Ten best Indian restaurants in Ayrshire according to TripAdvisor as UK celebrates National Curry Week

It's National Curry Week and the good people of Ayrshire certainly know all about decent grub.

The region has a bounty of Indian restaurants to choose from with many scooping up top industry awards over the years.

Everyone has a favourite curry house for a different reason — whether it's the greatest garlic naan bread to grace the earth or a fiery vindaloo you may live to regret the next day.

With that in mind, we've scoured TripAdvisor to see what Indian venues are ranked the best in Ayrshire.

10. The Rupee Room

The Wellington Square restaurant is one of the household names in the region and its allure still holds firm in Ayrshire and beyond.

One London tourist wrote of their visit in August this year: "The food was delicious; really tasty and authentic Indian food and I am a real fan of Indian food! The service was so personal too. Really fantastic evening. I would say this is the best food we ate in Ayr for the entire week’s holiday."

9. Lawthorn Farm Indian Restaurant & Pub

Tucked away on the outskirts of Irvine, Lawthorn is underrated and, at first glance, an unassuming hulk of a building that looks more like a country pub. But looks can be deceiving as this place has a very good reputation among foodies.

One regular diner said: "We get takeaway on a regular basis and occasionally sit in for dinner. The food is fresh and well presented. Service quick and attentive. Nice decor and ambiance.

"Varied menu which will cater for most tastes. The basic mixed pakora is easily the best in town."

8. Ayr India

The Alloway Place eaterie is the most-reviewed Indian restaurant on Ayrshire's TripAdvisor section with more than 750 hot takes on the venue.

And the number of positive reviews shows the high regard that punters have for the town centre curry house.

One Ayr India diner wrote: "Absolutely exceptional restaurant! I would highly recommend the quality of food, level of attention from staff and lovely surroundings."

7. Priya Authentic Indian Kitchen

A relatively new kid on the block when it comes to the Indian scene this Doonfoot restaurant has proved popular with its modern take on the cuisine.

One customer said: "Best Indian food in Ayr. Must go to this place if you love Indian food. Chicken pakora's amazing especially all the curries are so good. Well done guys."

6. Auld Acquaintance Cafe (International Fusion Food)

Not your typical Indian restaurant, this Girvan joint has garnered a respectable reputation for its high quality foods and huge variety on offer.

One diner raved about about the eaterie, writing: "Prenil can make virtually any dish to order ( rightly called food fusion) and loves a challenge but on this occasion we opted for Indian food and a house special Chicken Kashmiri and a Prenil customised Korma."

5. Ayr India

Ayr India's second venue, with enviable views of the town's seafront, makes for one of the region's most picturesque restaurants.

On reviewer said: "Good varied menu using local produce, keen pricing and a view out to sea made for a most enjoyable evening.

"All was freshly cooked to order and the various spices and ingredients used to create the flavours were most definitely there."

4. Torranyard Tandoori

Nestled in the countryside five minutes from Irvine, the Torranyard has even attracted legendary Holywood superstar actor Hugh Grant to the restaurant, who gave his seal of approval to the restaurant's lamb bhuna when he visited.

One diner, hailed the eaterie as the best in Ayrshire: "It doesn’t matter if its a sit in or takeaway meal, the food and service is always impeccable.

"My favourite dish is the South Indian Garlic Chilli, I have tried the same dish from the likes of the Taj in Prestwick, and the Lawthorn Farm in Irvine, however their take on the dish just doesn’t come close to the Torranyard’s."

3. Yasmins Fine Indian Cuisine

Highly regarded across the county, this venue is also ranked as the best restaurant in Girvan.

One tourist wrote of his dining experience in August this year: "Varied menu compared to our local Indian restaurant in County Durham so had the opportunity to try something different.

"We were not disappointed and the flavours and taste of the dishes were fresh and distinctive, very impressed and totally enjoyable."

2. Motherland Spice

The North Ayrshire restaurant is ranked the best in Saltcoats with hundreds rating the relatively new — it opened in 2012 — seaside curry house.

One diner said the eaterie was the best in the country: "Never fails to impress. The best curry house in Scotland as far as I’m concerned. Coconut lamb curry is absolutely too die for."

1. 3idiots

Taking the top spot is the Ayr restaurant and takeaway 3idiots, which specialises in Indian-style tapas.

Recommended for their quality produce, 3idiots is also one of the newest Indian restaurants in the region after it opened in 2019.

One reviewer said: "Lovely Indian food. Been to India lots over the years and heard this place was worth a try, wasn’t disappointed. Flakey Fish Pakora, Chicken Tikka and Saag Paneer, all very nice."
