Ten areas with lowest Covid vaccine uptake for over 60s are all in London, study shows

All ten of the areas in England with the lowest estimated Covid vaccine uptake among people aged 60 and over are in London, analysis shows.

The Parliamentary constituency with lowest proportion of people in this age group to have had at least one dose of vaccine as of March 7 was the Cities of London and Westminster.

An analysis of NHS England data found that an estimated 58.7 per cent of its population aged 60 and over are likely to have received at least one jab.

This compares to Kenilworth and Southam in the West Midlands where an estimated 99.5 per cent of people in this age group have had at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

All of the 10 areas with the lowest estimated proportion of vaccinated people aged 60 and over were in London:

Cities of London and Westminster - 58.7 per cent

Westminster North - 64.9 per cent

Poplar and Limehouse - 65.6 per cent

Bethnal Green and Bow - 67.0 per cent

Hampstead and Kilburn - 68.2 per cent

Chelsea and Fulham - 68.4 per cent

Holborn and St Pancras - 68.4 per cent

Camberwell and Peckham - 68.5 per cent

West Ham - 68.6 per cent

Kensington - 68.7 per cent

Three of the constituencies have a Conservative MP while seven are Labour, including Opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer's seat in Holborn and St Pancras.

Of the 30 constituencies with the lowest estimated uptake among people aged 60 and over only three were outside London - Birmingham Ladywood, Slough and Nottingham East.

All of the five seats which are likely to have the highest proportion of people in this age group given at least one jab are in the West Midlands and held by Conservative MPs.

Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi's seat of Stratford-on-Avon is among them.

They are:

Kenilworth and Southam - 99.5 per cent

Sutton Coldfield, - 98.1 per cent

The Wrekin - 97.8 per cent

Stafford - 97.2 per cent

Stratford-on-Avon - 97.0 per cent

The analysis is based on vaccine estimates published by NHS England on Thursday and population estimates from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for each of England's 533 constituencies.
