Ten Aldi Houmous products recalled over salmonella danger as food safety bosses issue another alert

Ten more batches of Aldi brand Houmous have been recalled over salmonella fears.

The products, which come from the UK, have been recalled by Zorba Delicacies, and customers have been warned not to consume them.

It comes after several Houmous products sold in Aldi, Lidl, Supervalu, Centra and Iceland stores across Ireland

And the Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued yet another recall, covering the following Aldi products:

  • Basil Houmous topped with pesto and parmesan
  • Moroccan Houmous topped with Harissa Chickpeas
  • Reduced Fat Houmous Selection Triple Pack
  • Reduced Fat Classic Houmous Triple Pack

  • Caramelised Onion Houmous
  • Moroccan Houmous
  • Red Pepper Houmous
  • Sweet Chilli Houmous
  • Reduced Fat Houmous
  • Houmous

Every use by date of these products has been recalled.

A spokesman for the FSAI added: "People infected with salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours.

"The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.  Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. 

"The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

"The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness."
