Temu Partnership Drives Growth and New Jobs for UK Security Firm Safe Tech

Safe Tech, a Manchester-based provider of smart security and fire alarms, has spent over a decade supplying products to the NHS, the Royal Navy, B&Q, and schools — building a strong reputation for reliability, innovation, and quality. But with public sector budgets under pressure, the company began looking for new growth avenues — specifically, direct-to-consumer sales. The challenge: Safe Tech had no prior experience in retail and its products were priced for institutions, not households.

That changed when Safe Tech partnered with Temu, the e-commerce platform known for affordability that entered the UK market two years ago. By developing a consumer range of budget-friendly fire alarms and smart home security kits— costing as little as £7.99— and selling them on Temu’s platform, Safe Tech was able to tap into a broader market of value-seeking households. Its products now sell for up to 50% less than competing brands.

“People are prioritising affordability in this economic climate,” says John. “We see the big picture — Temu arrived at the right time, and its reach is only going to grow.”

A hesitant start, a defining partnership

While the Temu partnership turned out well for Safe Tech, John was initially hesitant about selling on Temu. But the more John learned about Temu, the more he felt that the online shopping marketplace was the right move for the company.

"Temu isn't just about low prices, it was about reducing inefficiencies by streamlining our logistics and passing the savings on to consumers, as well as supporting our local economies," he said.

Launched in the UK in April 2023, Temu helps businesses tap into a growing base of value-focused shoppers. Since last year, the platform has invited UK merchants to expand their local product offerings, improve delivery times, and cater to rising demand. With 102.8 million monthly users in the EU, Temu allows early-bird businesses on its platform, such as Safe Tech, to gain a competitive edge.

Investing in Local Communities

Thanks to Temu, Safe Tech is on track to fulfil one of its goals – ensuring every British household can afford an all-round security plan for their homes. While working towards this goal, Safe Tech also remains committed to supporting its local communities.

The company launched another innovative product, the 'Smart Vape Detector', in early 2024, which has since been supplied to numerous schools and colleges across the country. The Royal High School in Edinburgh was among the first to adopt this technology, installing detectors in its toilets to identify chemicals like nicotine, propylene glycol, and other substances commonly found in vape emissions.

Spurred by the growing sales from Temu, Safe Tech is also set on increasing its workforce in the Greater Manchester area by recruiting additional customer service and technical support staff. Safe Tech hopes to be able to serve customers at home and abroad with its new hires.

"As one of Temu's early UK merchants, we're in a strong position to capitalise on the online shopping trend, and we've already proven that we can develop solutions faster than our competitors," said John.

"For us, Temu represents a great partnership that will allow us to stay ahead of market demand, while also helping families secure their homes without overspending."
