Temporary road closures as Severn Trent begins work to upgrade water pipes in Nottingham

Severn Trent will begin work to upgrade water pipes in and around Nottingham city centre this week.

The water company is replacing aging water pipes with brand new ones to help reduce the amount of leaks and bursts in the area.

These essential upgrades are due to begin on Friday, April 24 in the Sneinton area, where Moreland Street joins the A612 roundabout.

Temporary road closures will be put in place along a section of Moreland Street and Meadow Lane where they meet the roundabout, as well as some lane restrictions, for around four weeks.

A second phase of work is expected to start on Monday, April 27 along St. James’s Street, which will mean temporary lane closures and traffic management along parts of Friar Lane, Hounds Gate and Maid Marion Way, lasting up to three weeks.

Helen Purdy from Severn Trent, said: “We know it’s a challenging time for everyone right now but making sure our customers have a reliable water supply is as vital now as it’s ever been. That’s why you’ll see our teams out and about over the next four weeks in and around Nottingham city centre, carrying out these essential upgrades.

“Don’t worry, this won’t cause any interruption to your water supply, but to carry out the work safely, we’ll need to put temporary road closures and lane restrictions in place, which we understand will cause some frustration.

“We’ll be doing everything we can to minimise the disruption and we’d like to thank everyone in advance, for their patience as we get this essential work done.”
