CHENNAI: Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR & CE) minister P K Sekarbabu on Sunday said boards displaying the names and contact numbers of priests who would perform 'archanais' in Tamil will be displayed at the premises starting this week.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, the minister said priests were already available in temples for performing 'archanai' in Tamil. “We will have boards in 47 major temples displaying the names of such priests who perform 'archanai' in Tamil along with their mobile numbers. The initiative will be launched at Kapaleeswarar temple on Wednesday or Thursday,” he said.
On the ban on darshan for devotees in temples till August 3, the minister said the decision was necesitated due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. "When it comes to the choice between life and worship, life gets priority. We will take a decision regarding darshan on the following days based on the situation," he said. Most of the temples including Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore and Thiyagaraja Swamy Temple at Tiruvottiyur were closed for darshans on Sunday.
