Templeogue goalkeeper Conor Kearns inks new deal with Galway United for 2022

Templeogue's Conor Kearns has signed a new deal with Galway United that will keep him with Tribesmen for their First Division campaign in 2022.

The former Ireland under-21 goalkeeper is the first to put pen to paper for the new season with John Caulfield's side after they missed out on promotion in the play-offs.

Galway were edged out by Bray Wanderers 1-0 over two legs after finished second behind Shelbourne in the table.

Kearns, a former UCD and St Patrick's Athletic stopper, joined the Tribesmen ahead of the 2021 and immediately established himself as number one.

The 23-year-old kept 11 clean sheets in 24 league appearances as Galway trailed the champions by six points at season's end.

Kearns achieved infamy during his time at UCD when, following a 1-0 win over Bohemians, he celebrated in front of the home fans.

The former Templeogue United man was banned for one game by his club and received an additional seven games from the FAI as the Students were relegated in 2019.

“I’m delighted to get this over the line, there is no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be a Galway United player come next season," Kearns told the club's website.

"I signed to be part of a project and I definitely felt like we’re moving in the right direction.

“To be a part of a team that achieved that is something I’m proud of and something we’d love to do again next season and beat a record that we already set”
