SAMUT PRAKAN -- Wat Samrong Tai in Phra Pradaeng district has jumped on the digital payments bandwagon, joining the trend towards a cashless society.
The temple has set up a QR code payment transaction point where merit-seekers can make donations via PromptPay, the government's promoted e-payment system.
It is hoped use of the system will solve the headache caused by thefts of money from donation boxes and ensure transparency in the handling of donations through the use of e-banking.
Phra Maha Boriboon Parisuttho, an adviser to the abbot, said the temple realised the country is now orienting towards being less cash reliant.
In light of this, the temple sought advice from a bank, which recommended trying out the use of QR code payment for receiving donations.
After consulation with senior clergy, the temple tested the QR code payment system at its recent annual fair, the monk said. Wat Samrong Tai is the first temple in the province to use the system, he added.
The system is convenient for donors, with receipts issued as verification of payment, Phra Maha Boriboon said.
When a donation is made using QR code an alert is sent to temple monks and laymen via a mobile app, he said.
