The Temple Gate construction work continues this week as major road and bus routes are set to be closed with diversions in place around Bristol.
The series of night closures are happening all this week from 8pm to 6am Monday to Friday.
The £17million project has completely transformed the route around Bristol Temple Meads station, creating a more direct layout by removing the Temple Circus roundabout and replacing it with a simplified junction.
Pedestrian and cycle routes have also been improved, new bus stops have been added as well as bus priority lanes and there have been changes to the Bath Bridge junction.
But the work, which started back in June 2017, has been plagued by delays - thanks to the weather, a Victorian cellar and unchartered utility pipes - meaning it has taken more than a year longer than it was supposed to.
Autumn 2018 was the initial end date, but that's been extended multiple times - with mid-November now anticipated to see an end to the works.
Work continues this week and there are a number of road closures in place, along with bus route alterations.
Bus route changes for Tuesday, November 12:
These are the bus services and closures from 8pm today to 6am on Wednesday.
- As Redcliffe Way will be closed, services 70 and 73 will terminate at Broad Quay.
- Passengers wishing to go to Temple Meads direct are advised to use the service 8 or 72.
Services heading towards Bristol:
- Services 1, 2, 39, 91, 92 & BRIS from Bath Road (Fowlers) are to divert via Clarence Road and take 4th exit on roundabout onto Redcliffe Hill where the 39 are to resume normal route at Redcliff roundabout.
- Services 1, 2, 91, 92, 376, BRIS & m2 from Redcliffe Hill are to cross roundabout into Redcliff Street right again into Three Queens Lane, left into St Thomas Street then turn left into Victoria Street where services 1, 2, 91 & 92 resume normal route.
- Services 376 & BRIS are to turn right into Counterslip then left at Temple Way to resume normal route.
- Service PORT from Victoria Street are to turn left than as service 376, m2 & BRIS
Services heading from Bristol:
- Services 1, 2, 91 & 92 from Victoria Street/Bristol Bridge are to divert left into Counterslip, left onto Temple Way around Old Market roundabout back down Temple Way to resume normal route at Temple Meads.
- Service 39, A1 & BRIS from Redcliff roundabout are to divert left into Redcliff Street right again into Three Queens Lane, left into St Thomas Street to Victoria Street then turn left into Victoria Street right into Counterslip then as above.
- Service A1 from Temple Meads are to turn left round Bath Bridge into York Road right at roundabout onto Redcliff Hill and back round Redcliff roundabout to resume normal route.
Bus stops are also being closed and moved:
- Redcliffe Way R4 (Served by Service A1 towards Bristol Airport, Service 39 towards Bristol Bus Station and Services 70 and 73 towards North Bristol)
- Redcliffe Way R5 (Served by Services 70 and 73 towards Temple Meads)
- Victoria Street R7 (Served by Southbound services towards Temple Meads, Broomhill, Hengrove and Stockwood)
- Temple Meads Station T2 (Served by Southbound services towards Bath, Broomhill, Stockwood and Street)
- Temple Meads T3 (Served by the Brislington Park and Ride and Service 39 towards Bath).
- Temple Meads Station T4 (Served by Service 39 towards Bristol Bus Station).
- Temple Meads Station T6 (Served by Service 70 towards UWE and Service 73 towards Cribbs Causeway
- Temple Meads Station T7 (Served by Services 1 and 2 towards Cribbs Causeway).
- Temple Way T8 (Served by journeys on Services 8 and 9 towards Clifton and Redland, Service 72 towards UWE Frenchay Campus, Service 376 towards Bristol Bus Station, MetroBus Service M2 and Portway and Brislington Park and Ride services).
- In addition, please be advised that Victoria Street R6 (Served by Northbound services towards Broadmead, Park Street, Whiteladies Road and Cribbs Causeway) is now suspended until further notice in connection with the closure of Mitchell Lane.
Alternative stopping arrangements:
- Services 70 and 73 will terminate at The Centre C5 in Broad Quay and commence from The Centre C6 in Broad Quay. Stops at Redcliffe Way and Temple Meads will NOT be served.
- From Redcliffe Way R4 the nearest alternative stop for Service A1 towards Bristol Airport will be the next Stop Redcliff Hill R1. The nearest alternative stop for Service 39 towards Bristol Bus Station will be Redcliff Hill Stop R2 (by The Mercure Holland House Hotel).
- From Victoria Street R6 the nearest alternative stop is the previous stop (Bristol Bridge R8) which is located back towards Bristol Bridge approximately 250 metres prior to the site of R6.
- From the temporary stop at Victoria Street R7 the nearest alternative stop is the previous stop (Bristol Bridge R9) which is located back towards Bristol Bridge approximately 190 metres prior to the site of R9.
- From Temple Meads Station T2 the nearest alternative stops will be either a temporary stop in York Road on the first lamp column past the entrance to Fowlers or alternatively Stop R2 in Redcliff Hill.
- From Temple Meads T3 the nearest alternative stop will be the next stop Temple Meads T1.
- From Temple Meads Station T4 the nearest alternative stop for Service 39 will be a temporary stop in York Road on the first lamp column past the entrance to Fowlers.
- From Temple Meads Station T7 the nearest alternative stop will be either a temporary stop in York Road on the first lamp column past the entrance to Fowlers or alternatively Stop R2 in Redcliff Hill. Alternatively the next regular stop will be Bristol Bridge R8.
- From Temple Meads T8 the nearest alternative stop for the Brislington and Portway Park and Ride service is the next stop (Temple Way M2) which is located approximately 370-375 metres to the right of Temple Meads T8, towards Old Market Roundabout. The nearest alternative stop for MetroBus Service M2 will be Cabot Circus S13 which is located approximately 575 metres to the right of Temple Meads T8
