TAK: An old house for monks at Wat Wang Takhian in Mae Sot district of this northern border province was heavily damaged in a pre-dawn fire on Sunday morning. No deaths or injuries were reported.

Panom Saengpaeng, chairman of the Tha Sai Luat tambon administration organisation (TAO), said several fire trucks from nearby local administrations were despatched to the temple at Ban Wang Takhian on being alerted to the fire, which broke out shortly after 5am.

The fire was put out in about one hour, by which time the house was badly damaged.

Several monks and a few children who lived in the house managed to flee to safety after the fire broke out.

Police were investigating the cause of the blaze.
