Temperatures are due to soar in Liverpool as European forecasters warn "hell is coming".

A "potentially dangerous" heatwave is expected to move onto the continent this week with the mercury in some European cities set to tip 40°C.

According to Mirror Online , frantic officials have urged older people and children to stay indoors as Europe is gripped with soaring temperatures.

In Spain, TV meteorologist for RTVE, Silvia Laplana said: "El infierno (hell) is coming."

By Thursday, forecasters believe it could reach 42C in some Spanish regions, posing an "extreme risk" of forest fires.

In the UK, temperatures could peak at around 30°C in some places as Liverpool prepares for days of sunshine and a hot start to the weekend.

According to the Met Office , people in Liverpool can expect four days of 20°C temperature with the mercury rising to a scorching 24°C on Friday afternoon.

Plenty of sunshine will also be making an appearance with no rain forecast for the city at all in the next seven days.
