
Temperatures surged in many parts of eastern and western Japan on Monday morning, with the mercury rising above 30 C in some areas.
It was 32.5 C in Kofu, 32.2 C in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, 30.8 C in Maebashi and 30.4 C in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture at 1 p.m. on Monday
The temperature in central Tokyo was 26 C, about the same level as the average temperature in late June. It was 28.8 C in Kyoto.
The balmy temperatures are expected to continue throughout eastern and western Japan, with forecasters predicting higher than usual temperatures across the country this summer.
"The risk of heatstroke is higher because our bodies are not yet accustomed to the high temperatures, so please be careful," a Japan Meteorological Agency official said.
