Temperatures plummet in Liverpool as heavy rain arrives

If you're heading out in Liverpool today, you'll need a warm coat as temperatures have plummeted from the low twenties we've been used to.

Heavy rain is also set to dominate this morning, with more rain on the way in the next few days.

Over the past week Liverpool has enjoyed an 'Indian summer' with bright sunshine and temperatures well above average for the time of year.

People enjoyed trips to the beach and dined al fresco at restaurants around the city.

But that's a distant memory with a high of only 13 degrees expected today.

The cooler weather looks set to stay, with temperatures set to stay in the low teens for the foreseeable future, as Autumn kicks in.

The Met Office forecast for the North West said: "A cloudy and wet morning with spells of persistent rain moving east through the area. These should gradually ease during the afternoon, with occasional sunny breaks developing. Noticeably less warm

"Tonight lingering rain will clear to the east during the first part of the night, leaving it largely dry with clear spells. Towards the end of the night, winds will strengthen with another band of rain.

"Thursday will see a wet and windy start to the day as a band of rain moves through. This will be followed by some sunny spells, but also frequent showers. Another rather cool day.

"Showers to start on Friday then frequent sunny spells in the afternoon. Still a continued risk of a spotty shower or two. Breezy and cool.

"Saturday could see some early showers, but otherwise looks to be a largely dry and fine day with sunshine. The odd shower could develop later however. Sunday also looks to be a dry day with a few sunny spells, but more in the way of cloud."
