Temperatures in Wales will hit 28C on Friday - here's the forecast where you live

After a wet and windy start to the week, unsettled weather will give way to scorching heat in Wales on Friday.

A deep area of low pressure that brought thundery downpours to the UK on Monday and Tuesday has now moved away, allowing more settled conditions to take hold.

But as the week progresses, a separate area of low pressure in the Atlantic will force a warm front across the northern half of the UK, according to the Met Office.

This will send a band of rain northeastwards across Wales and England on Thursday.

The bulk of Wales will miss out on the wet weather, allowing for another dry, warm and sunny day. Highs in parts of Wales will push into the mid 20s C.

But by Thursday night, the low pressure will start to draw up warmer air from the south setting the stage for Friday to become the hottest day of the week.

Met Office deputy chief forecaster Brent Walker said: “There is quite a change in the weather coming by the end of the week, with increasing sunshine and a day of hot conditions on Friday."

The mercury will surge highest in Wrexham, where readings of 28C are predicted at the hottest point of the day. Meanwhile, Builth Wells will reach 26C and Cardiff will hit 24C.

The western coast of Wales will be slightly cooler with highs ranging from 19-22C.

For many locations, it could become the hottest day of the month, according to BBC meteorologist Derek Brockway.

The mid-summer heat will provide an excellent opportunity for people to head to the beaches or fire up the barbecue ahead of a cooler weekend.

Forecasters are predicting a cold front will move in from the west on Saturday, cutting off the supply of hot air from the south.

This will open the door for heavy and potentially thundery showers at the middle of the weekend.
