Temperatures in Scotland to soar next week after period of heavy rain

Temperatures are expected to soar above 20C in parts of Scotland next week - but experts issued a yellow weather warning for rain over this weekend.

Forecasters at the Met Office are anticipating a brief period of warm weather over the course of Monday and Tuesday.

Areas surrounding Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth will see the highest temperatures, with a chance they could peak at 21C on Tuesday.

Temperatures are also expected to stay within touching distance of 20C elsewhere in Scotland.

It will be a welcome relief for Scots, after wet and blustery conditions dominated the skies for much of August.

Parts of Scotland saw ‘ biblical ’ floods as storms Ellen and Francis descended on mainly eastern and northern areas of the country.

But, the Met Office has also issued a yellow weather warning for rain in north western parts of the country over this weekend.

Around 50mm could fall in parts of Perth and Kinross, Stirling, the Highlands and Argyll and Bute between 6pm on Saturday and 11.59pm on Sunday.

Transport services could be heavily disrupted while forecasters have warned of flooding to some homes and businesses.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “A band of heavy and persistent rain will arrive across western Scotland during Saturday evening, and continue through much of Sunday.

“Many places in the highlighted region will see 25-50 mm of rainfall however, over the hills and mountains, peak totals of 120-160 mm are likely during this time.

“In association with the rainfall, there will be a period of strong southwesterly winds, although these are not expected to be overly impactful, they may make travelling conditions more challenging in places.”
