Temperatures could reach scorching 25 degrees this weekend as rain clears

The North East could see temperatures as high as 25°C on Saturday after a gloomy start to the week.

The region was hit with miserable and heavy rain showers on Monday and Tuesday but luckily, things are looking up.

Sunshine will gradually break through the clouds and it may even start feeling like summer.

Met Office forecaster Sophie Yeomans told us what to expect for the week ahead:

Wednesday

"We'll wake up to a cloudy start. It will be quite grey and misty in places but it should start to clear up.

"We might see one or two spells of sunshine.

"The winds are quite light but it will keep temperatures down with highs of around 13/14°C.

"It won't be especially warm and a little bit chilly for this time of year."

Thursday

"We'll see more in the way of blue skies and it's a generally sunny day.

"Still temperatures are coming down a bit. Further inland it will be warmer. The lowest temperature will be around 12/13°C and the highest around 15 or 16°C."

Friday

"A mainly dry day but we might get more in the way of cloud. It could stay cloudy through much of the day.

"We might see it clear up a bit so Friday is a bit of a mixed bag.

"Temperatures will have lows of 13/14°C and highs of 18/19°C if the sunshine wins out."

Saturday

"Through the week there's easterly winds but as we head into Saturday this will change direction and it will be coming from a westerly angle.

"This means there will be warmer air coming across the land rather than the sea.

"Temperatures will be higher with potential highs of 25°C."
