Temperatures could hit 27C today but there may be rain on the way

Finally, the sunshine has arrived in Greater Manchester.

After weeks of unsettled weather and what felt like the longest winter ever, the warm weather has reached us at last.

The Bank Holiday weekend saw sunseekers flock to beauty spots and parks as the region basked in temperatures of up to 23 degrees.

Yesterday, temperatures rose to 26C by lunchtime.

And today, we're in for another hot one.

According to the Met Office, temperatures could hit 27C by 4pm in Manchester and wall-to-wall sunshine is expected across much of the region.

But this may change tonight, with forecasters predicting rain showers from around 10pm.

There may be some heavy downpours at around midnight and showers are predicted to fall until around 2am.

Light showers are predicted on Thursday morning, though temperatures will remain warm reaching 19C by lunchtime.

The weather should be sunny again on Friday and Saturday, with some cloudy intervals and temperatures of around 21C.

Sunday will be another warm day with the mercury reaching 19C.

The Met Office has warned of high, or very high, UV light levels.

May was the fourth wettest on record for the UK, and the wettest ever for Wales.
