Temperature likely to decline with cloudy sky, thunderstorms

LUCKNOW: A few spells of rain or thunderstorms accompanied with strong winds may lash many parts of the state including Lucknow on Sunday and Monday.

“Conditions have become favourable for rains due to the western disturbance, which now has turned into a cyclonic circulation over southern parts of Afghanistan and neighbourhood. Besides, easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture into the state’s atmosphere,” said state Met director JP Gupta.

“Widespread rainfall activity accompanied with scattered, moderate to severe thunderstorm activity is very likely on Sunday and Monday in UP. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur over some of the districts. Strong winds with gusts measuring up to 50 to 60 km per hour can also lash the state,” he added.

According to the state Met department, rainfall activity will be more in the west UP districts, particularly those bordering Uttarakhand and Nepal.

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in districts of Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and adjoining areas on Monday, he said.

In Lucknow, sky will remain generally cloudy on Sunday and Monday with the possibility of one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
