Temperature breaches 40°C in many places across Rajasthan

JAIPUR: As predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), heat wave conditions have already gripped western Rajasthan with temperatures in many places hovering around the 40°C mark.

Weathermen said this was mainly due to the heating of surface in countries like Oman and Pakistan from where northerly winds were coming to western Rajasthan. Barmer remained hottest in the state on Tuesday logging 42.5°C. On Tuesday, at least six places in the state recorded temperatures on and above 40°C.

Attributing the continued rise in mercury for the past few days due to active northerly winds, Jaipur Met office said some relief was expected on March 20 due to prevailing western disturbances.

People in Jaipur woke up to a comparatively warmer morning as a minimum temperature of 22.2°C was logged, almost 6 degrees above normal. It was followed by a warmer afternoon as the mercury touched 38°C, almost 7 degrees above normal.

“In the first fortnight of March, the average minimum temperature in Jaipur was 17°C and the average maximum temperature was 31°C. However, this year temperatures are already above normal. Also, in the coming days, there is a possibility of further rise in temperatures,” said an officer with Jaipur Met office.
