Telvin Smith, Jalen Ramsey not present for Jags’ voluntary workouts

The Jacksonville Jaguars began their voluntary workouts Monday with a vast majority of their players in attendance. However, two former Pro Bowlers were revealed to be absent by coach Doug Marrone in his press conference Tuesday in cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebacker Telvin Smith.

Ramsey hasn’t participated in Phase 1 of the Jags’ offseason program since his second season, electing to train in Nashville, Tenn. with his father instead.   He also was dealing with the birth of his daughter last year around this time, but eventually joined the team on the fifth day of training camp. All that said, fans definitely shouldn’t stress his absence as he’s proven multiple times that he’ll come back in shape and ready to roll.

As for Smith, his absence is a bit of a surprise. Marrone didn’t really offer much on the reason for his absence (or Ramsey’s), but did state that he was confident that both players were working hard. Regardless, it shouldn’t affect the rest of the roster as Smith’s work ethic speaks for itself just like Ramsey’s.
