Telles and Martial to start - Manchester United predicted line up vs PSG

After a year in the Europa League, Manchester United will return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when they travel to face Paris Saint-Germain.

However, they will compete against the French champions in the opening game of Group H without captain Harry Maguire, Mason Greenwood, Eric Bailly, Jesse Lingard or new signing Edinson Cavani.

Cavani signed for United on deadline day after being released by PSG in the summer but only attended his first training session at the club on Sunday after a period of isolation following his arrival in the UK. The Uruguayan is short of match fitness having last played a competitive game on March 11.

Maguire was an initial doubt for Saturday's 4-1 victory over Newcastle but started the game and scored a vital equaliser, though Greenwood missed out on the clash with an unspecified injury. Greenwood trained on Monday but hasn't travelled, with Bailly and Lingard also staying at home.

The absentees leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with some selection dilemmas upon his return to the stadium where he enjoyed his greatest night in charge of United so far.

The United boss has often opted for a back-three formation against teams who will likely dominate possession and he may revert to that set up again on Tuesday, especially with Maguire and Bailly absent.

However, with two first choice centre-backs missing, Solskjaer looks like he will be forced to throw Axel Tuanzebe straight into the starting XI, whichever formation he uses. The 22-year-old hasn't played a first-team game since last December due to injury but has made the trip to Paris and may well be called into action.

Luke Shaw could tuck inside and play as a left-sided centre-back to complete the back three along with Victor Lindelof. This would open up a slot for Alex Telles to make his United debut in the left wing-back position, where his attacking talents could prove to be a useful outlet.

The dynamic and combative duo of Fred and Scott McTominay could keep their places in the centre of midfield to offer protection to the defence, with Bruno Fernandes positioned in the attacking midfield role ahead of them - though that would see Paul Pogba remain on the bench.

The Portuguese would be able to provide vital support for a front two of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, with the Frenchman available after missing the win at Newcastle through suspension.

Predicted United starting XI vs PSG: De Gea; Tuanzebe, Lindelof, Shaw; Wan-Bissaka, McTominay, Fred, Telles; Fernandes; Rashford, Martial.
