The original cut of Star Wars, first released in cinemas in 1977-78, has rarely been shown in public since director George Lucas produced special editions of the original Star Wars trilogy in the 1990s, with new CGI characters and other controversial revisions. But fans will get a rare chance to see the original cut on the big screen on the opening night of the British Film Institute (BFI)’s Film on Film festival on 12 June.

To mark the occasion, we would like to hear about your memories of seeing Star Wars in cinemas when it first opened in 1977/78.
