Tell us your favourite memories in Liverpool's oldest pub

Liverpool's pub scene has changed dramatically over the years, but one boozer has always been reliable for local punters.

Ye Hole In Ye Wall claims to be Liverpool's oldest public house. There is a chance your great- great - great grandparents would have made it their local boozer to catch up over a pint on the weekend.

The site located on Hackins Hey was originally a Quaker burial site. but has been a pub since 1726. The pub didn't start letting women enjoy a nice cold pint until 1975 when new laws came in.

Landlord Lawrence Crean told the ECHO at the time: “We would have preferred to have kept the pub men only, but we have no choice in the matter.” While the bar now welcomes all genders, the ladies toilet is still located upstairs in the old converted staff toilet.

The pub was and still is best known for its cask ales. Current landlord Stephen Hoy has been running the ale house since 2000 with his wife Hayley who often helps out with the running of the business. The pub serves five guest cask ales which are frequently rotated.

Ye Hole In Ye Wall is also said to be home to two ghosts, one of which is commonly mistaken for a local. Punters have described the ghost as an eerie figure in a long wax jacket who ligers at the bar.

It is also rumoured that the pub is haunted by an old Spanish sailor in the 18th century who was stabbed in the pub for not taking the King's shilling, according to Mysterious Britain.

The pub to this day still has an old English feel to it. Many describe it as a 'proper pub' with lots of brass, wood panelling, stained glass and a cosy flame fire. The wall panelling is dated back to 1930s and the ornate copper fireplace is said to be dated back to the 60s.

Only until recently were all the real ales served on handpumps. Some real ale was served from a keg looking dispenser by gravity feed down the columns on top of the bar counter.
