Tell us what you think about Nicola Sturgeon's new Christmas covid rules

This week, Nicola Sturgeon made an announcement in Scottish Parliament regarding this year's festive plans amid the rising spread of omicron.

In her speech on December 14, the First Minister announced that the new variant was spreading faster than any other - including delta - meaning the strain is likely to become the "dominant" one in just days despite its milder symptoms.

Due to the rapid transmission of omicron and Scotland's increasing 'R number', which is said to be "well over 2 and possibly above 4", the FM set out further restrictions in a bid to keep the spread down.

So to see how the people of Glasgow feel about the latest Christmas advice, we want you to tell us what you think about Sturgeon's rules and if it's affected your plans.

So what were the restrictions that Nicola Sturgeon announced?

  • Working from home will now become a "legal duty" for employers and if an individual cannot work from home, they must test regularly with an LFT
  • Rather than closing businesses, protections will return such as those we had at the start of the pandemic - for example physical distancing and protective screens
  • Despite talks of schools closing in Scotland, this will not happen with the FM stating that she does not want to disrupt education

  • Although it will not be legally enforced due to factors such as mental health and well-being, the advice is to limit social gatherings to three households

In explaining the household limit, the FM said: "I want to be clear, I am not asking anyone to 'cancel' Christmas - but in the run up to and in the immediate aftermath of Christmas, I am asking everyone to reduce as far as possible, and to a minimum, the contacts we have with people in other households.

"If you do plan on socialising - either at home or in indoor public places - we are asking that you limit the number of households represented in your group to a maximum of 3. And make sure you test before you go.

"I know this is a tough thing to ask people to do, especially at this time of year. So I want to be clear why we are doing it."
