Tell us what you'll miss most about the Manchester Christmas Markets

Love them or loathe them, the Manchester Christmas Markets have always been a highlight of the city's busy year of events.

But sadly, the annual festivities have been called off this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Christmas Markets usually attract tens of thousands of visitors to the city, as well as pulling Greater Manchester locals into the centre.

People flock in for gluhwein served in limited-edition mugs, huge bratwurst cooked on a swing grill, handmade gifts, confectionery, garlic potatoes and all sorts of festive fun.

We want to know what your Christmas Markets highlights have been over the years - and what you'll miss most about them this year. Let us know in the comments below.

As well as traditional Bavarian food, there has always been a good showing of local operators too.

Northern Soul pitch up with their signature grilled cheese sandwiches, Yard & Coop with buttermilk-fried chicken in a cone (festive), Porky Pigs with their iconic Yorkshire pudding wrap, and Elsie May's with loaded hot cookie dough.

Here's our review of all last year's new food traders to jog your memory.

The markets historically have always centred at Albert Square, with a giant Santa sitting in front of the town hall and a two-storey bar serving wine and German beers.

Last year, thanks to the ongoing renovation of the town hall, the markets spread out to Piccadilly Gardens for the first time and welcomed a new Santa Clause (he'll still be back this year despite the markets being called off).

Don't forget to leave your favourite Christmas Markets moments in the comments below.
