Gay bars are far more than just places where you go to get a drink after work – they are often cornerstones of the LGBT community, safe spaces and sanctuaries. It was this safety which Omar Mateen violated when he launched his horrific attack.

Many Americans will have a gay bar in their life that means a lot to them. A place where you go to celebrate good times and to dance away sorrows. A place where you meet old friends and makes new ones. A place where you find love and get over heartbreak.

Across the country, vigils for the victims of the Orlando shootings are being held at these venues. As the nation comes to terms with what happened, we want to hear what gay bars have meant to you. Tell us your story here.
