Greater Manchester is going to the polls today, as England votes in the local government elections.
But this time voters are being told to take proof of ID to the polling station, or face being turned away. New legislation has been put in place by the government in order to help prevent voter fraud.
During the last general election, according to the Electoral Commission, 595 cases of alleged electoral fraud were investigated. But only four of those cases led to a conviction.

Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove said: “These changes will prevent electoral fraud and ensure elections remain free and fair."
But the new law has been described as "expensive" and "unnecessary" by Labour, and been condemned by electoral reform campaigners.
