According to Ceda’s 2015 Australia’s future workplace? report, 40% of today’s jobs are likely to disappear in the next 10 to 15 years due to automation. This is part of a global transformation dubbed the fourth industrial revolution, which will impact our jobs, our economy, our political models and potentially every aspect of our daily lives.
So will this usher in an era dominated by centralised wealth, disenfranchisement and disillusionment? Or will it mean we will have the chance to transform our world for the better and pursue more meaningful lives?
In our new future of work series, we will be exploring these changes and their implications for Australia and for the world. What will the new jobs look like? How will we educate and prepare future generations for those jobs? And how will we function in this new world?
This will affect everyone so we’d encourage you to suggest ideas for topics you think we should investigate. Fill in the form below or email alexandra.spring@theguardian.com with “Fourth Industrial Revolution series” in the subject line.
