The rates of infection for Covid have been rising steeply in the UK due to the greater transmissibility of the Delta variant.
In the week ending 26 June, about one in 260 people in the community were estimated to have Covid, a rise of around 72% on the week before, according to the Office for National Statistics. There has also been an increase in Scotland, where about one in 150 people in the community had Covid in the most recent week. An increase was also recorded in Wales, but the trend in Northern Ireland was unclear.
