'Tell the Echo you got it back': cheeky note left on bench taken from garden

A bench taken from a homeowner's garden has been returned - along with a handwritten note that reads "Tell the ECHO you got it back."

A man on Sunday morning at 2.15am, in Tuebrook, apparently sizing up the piece of furniture before slowly carrying it down the street.

In the can be seen bending down over the bench and it appears he is bracing himself to pick it up.

However he can then be seen sheepishly turning his head, appearing to have been spooked by something.

After looking over his shoulder for a few seconds the man then turns his attention back to the piece of garden furniture.

At one point he appears deep in thought, even placing a hand on his face while looking at the bench.

He also bends down and appears to stroke the bench in another clip, before standing back up and continuing to ponder over the

But soon after, it appears the man has decided the time is right and he bends down and lifts the bench up.

The then ends with the hooded man almost waddling away down the driveway, as he struggles with the heavy timber bench down the road.

Peter Duncan - who owns the bench - told the ECHO of his surprise at how the opportunist managed to carry the bench.

He said: "The bench is really, really heavy and unless he lives local or has a vehicle down the road I don't know how he did it."

Today, the decorator from Tuebrook was amazed at seeing the piece of furniture back in its place with the note.

He added: "I was shocked, I was in my overalls having my cup of tea and piece of toast and there it was.

"It's all good now, they must have brought it back overnight.

"We're happy, people know you've got CCTV and it puts them off.

"It's in the past and it's all good now."
