Barack Obama's presidential inauguration committee is holding an essay contest. The organisation will choose 10 winners based on the strength of their essays, which are to answer "What does this inauguration mean to you?" Winners will be given airfare, accommodations and tickets for two.
So what does it mean? How about a long, cold walk to the National Mall and a freezing morning standing around on the field? Washington officials estimate more than a million will crowd into the national mall for the January 20 event, and city residents are urged to consider walking rather than waiting for public transportation. The programme starts at 11:30, and viewers are advised to arrive by 9.
