Telangana urges Centre to sanction STPIs in state

HYDERABAD: Expressing disappointment over the Centre’s decision of not sanctioning a single Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs) in Telangana despite the state being a frontrunner in the IT sector, Telangana IT and industries minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday urged the Centre to sanction new STPIs for Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Khammam and Mahabubnagar in the state.

Union minister of state Rajeev Chandrasekhar had recently stated in Parliament that the government has sanctioned 22 new STPIs for tier 2-3 towns in states such as Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Haryana, Gujarat, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh.

With Telangana missing from the list, KTR in a letter to the Union minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated that the Union government has already done a disservice to the youngsters of state by withdrawing the Information ITIR.

“The government has started construction of IT hubs in other towns. We are seeing interest from both IT companies and SMEs to set up operations,” he said, adding that sanctioning of STPIs will boost the IT sector and lead to the generation of employment opportunities for youth.
