Telangana: Two women killed as SUV rams pavement in Rangareddy

HYDERABAD: Two women were killed after an SUV driver, allegedly speeding, lost control and the vehicle flipped after hitting the pavement in front of a hotel in Gachibowli on Friday evening. One of the women was in the SUV while the other was a gardener watering plants on the pavement outside the hotel. The SUV driver is in ICU.

Gachibowli police said that deceased S Gayathri, a junior artiste, was returning with her friend, businessman D Rohit (25), who was driving back after attending a holi event. Cops are waiting for hospital authorities to confirm if Rohit was drunk.

Cops couldn't test man for drunk driving

The gardener was identified as N Maheshwari (38).

"They were moving from Wipro Circle towards IIIT Junction when Rohit lost control, hit the pavement and then the gardener who died on the spot. The vehicle overturned and Gayathri fell off the seat, suffering grievous injuries," a cop said.

Both Gayathri and Rohit were shifted to hospital where she was declared brought dead. Rohit is a resident of HMT Hillls, whereas Gayathri lived in KPHB colony.

Deputy commissioner of police (Madhapur Zone) K Shilpavalli said as Rohit was in the ICU they could not test him for drunk driving.

"Only doctors can tell us now. But when we enquired with his friends, they claimed that he did not drink at the event," she said.
