HYDERABAD: With Election Commission of India (ECI) imposing restrictions on public gatherings, which have become a hindrance to hold public meetings during the campaigning for Huzurabad bypoll, TRS is exploring various options on holding a public meeting.
In view of Covid-19, EC has restricted public gatherings to 1,000 people to avert spread of the coronavirus.
Since the bye-election is prestigious for the pink party, TRS is firm on conducting a meeting to woo the voters.
“Ministers and other leaders are holding meetings, but TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s address during the meeting will definitely be an added advantage for us,” a senior TRS leader said.
TRS sources said the party would first seek EC to give relaxation for convening the meeting as the number of Covid-19 cases have come down and it was completely under control.
“If it doesn’t work out, the party will hold a meeting outside the Huzurabad constituency like Karimnagar town, Husnabad area or Hanamkonda. The EC cannot stop the party from holding such meetings,” a TRS general secretary told TOI.
Sources said some TRS leaders had even suggested a virtual meeting by putting LED projectors in major villages. However, KCR reportedly turned down the proposal.
BJP has been closely monitoring TRS moves. “If TRS holds a public meeting outside the constituency, our party may also work out a strategy on reaching out to large sections of the people during the campaigning, “ BJP leader and Union minister G Kishan Reddy said.
