Telangana: Tech, junior colleges too see few students

HYDERABAD: Not even 50% of students studying in technical colleges across the state attended physical classes on Tuesday.

Several colleges have also decided to continue in the online mode for the time being as many of their staff and students are down with Covid-19 symptoms.

Faculty working at these colleges said that many students skipped classes on Tuesday and they were hoping that attendance would pick up in the coming days.

“Less than 50% of students studying in courses such as BTech, pharmacy, MTech, MBA, among other courses have attended classes today,” said V Balakrishna Reddy, president, Technical & Professional Institutes Employees Association, Telangana State (TPIEA-TS).

“Our college has decided to continue with online classes for this week as many are down with covid-19,” said Keerthana B, a BTech student.

The situation is more or less the same with junior colleges as well as with very few students attending physical classes on Tuesday.

“Hardly 20-25% of students have attended physical classes today. It might take at least another four to five days for attendance percentage to improve as many are yet to return from their villages,” said G Satish, president, Telangana Junior Colleges Managements Association.
