Telangana: SOS cries in Nirmal as locals get stuck in flood waters

HYDERABAD: The deluge in Nirmal town has left many people stranded in their houses who are desparate to be rescued.

A resident of GNR colony who was stuck in his house tweeted for help sharing a video of the inundated area.

"Please help us. We are dying here. Please help us. Please," said Santosh Shetty. Nirmal district collector Musharraf Ali Faruqui responded saying: "Brother, we are all on field. Boats are rescuing senior citizens and other more needy groups. We are on the task. Please stay home, stay safe.”

Since the water levels rose in the morning, expert swimmers wearing life jackets went into the house to rescue the residents. Pregnant women or women with infants were brought to safety. There are said to be more than 300 people who have been stranded in the colony.

Endowments minister and local legislator A Indrakaran Reddy said the situation in Nirmal was due to unprecedented rains. “No one has seen such heavy rain before,” he said.
