Telangana sets up special cell to control drug circulation in state

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has set up a special narcotic and organised crime control cell (counter intelligence cell) in the police department with 1,000 members.

The special cell would work under the DGP and will perform special duties to take stringent measures to control and eliminate narcotic drugs abuse and against the organised crimes.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has instructed the concerned officials to act tough against drug peddlers and said that drugs should be totally eliminated from the state.

The CM has decided to hold a conference with state police and excise officials at Pragathi Bhavan on January 28. The meeting will be headed by CM KCR, and ministers and other officials will take part in it.

In the conference, discussion will take place on the measures to be taken and the guidelines to be followed to curtail and eliminate drug abuse. In this context, the police and excise departments will be put on further alert.

CM KCR said that in the narcotics cases, culprits, however high and mighty, should be punished. A special action plan should be prepared for the strict implementation of the stringent measures.
