HYDERABAD: Telangana is one of the few states that has covered more than 105% of the eligible total population for the Covid-19 vaccine with Ranga Reddy district leading the way with 119% first dose coverage.
Except for five districts, all the other 29 districts covered more than 100 percent coverage in the adult age group.
Ranga Reddy district, which sees a high construction work and a floating migrant population, has 119 percent first dose coverage, making it the highest in the state.
Ranga Reddy is followed by Hyderabad, which has 108 first dose percent coverage, while Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Nizamabad, Jogulmaba Gadwal, Adilabad, and Kamareddy are the districts that have not provided more than 100 percent first dose coverage to eligible people.
Eleven districts — Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medak, Siddipet, Mancherial, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanumakonda, Sanga Reddy, Nirmal, Yadadri Bhongir, Karimnagar and Nirmal — received more than 105 percent coverage for the first dose.
According to officials, in Ranga Reddy the first dose coverage will be expanded further as the state undergoes a lot of construction work and has a high migration labour population. “With the help of mobile vans, we have essentially vaccinated every eligible person. Because many of them get vaccinated here and then return to their states, there will be a gap between first and second dose coverage,” a senior official explained.
