HYDERABAD: A pregnant woman was allegedly killed by her husband at Rajpet Thanda in Varni mandal in Nizamabad district. The accused forced her to consume toilet cleaning acid.
According to police, accused Tarun, a worker, had married the victim, Kalyani, about four years ago.
Three moths ago, Kalyani became pregnant and Tarun started harassing her saying that she was not good looking. He also started pestering her to get more dowry from her family, Varni police said.
On Tuesday, Tarun had an argument with Kalyani and forced her to consume toilet cleaner. Kalyani fell severely ill due to the assault and her family shifted her to government hospital in Nizamabad for treatment. While undergoing treatment, Kalyani succumbed on Wednesday.
Family members of Kalyani lodged a complaint against Tarun and his family members alleging that they had harassed her for additional dowry and killed her by forcing her to consume toilet cleaner.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 302, 304-B and 498-A of the IPC against Tarun and two of his family members. The accused were on the run and police launched a manhunt to nab them.
