HYDERABAD: A businessman who borrowed a mere Rs 3,000 via a loan app but dillydallied in repayment ended up shelling out Rs 1.8 lakh after the app operators began sending his morphed nude photos to his contacts on phone.
The 35-year-old from Kamareddy had installed multiple loan apps on his phone in February after an online search, cops said. When he didn’t repay, the loan app operators accessed his contacts on the phone and shared his morphed nude photos, cops said. The operators then began to extort money as the panicked businessman urged them to stop sharing the morphed nude images with his contacts.
“Through various e-wallets, the victim sent Rs 1.8 lakh to the loan app operators who resorted to blackmailing,” Kamareddy SP B Srinivasa Reddy said.
Based on the details given by the complainant, Kamareddy Town police registered a case under sections 420 IPC and 66-D of the IT Act. Police found out that the main suspect has been operating from Madhya Pradesh.
“People should not borrow money for exorbitant interests via loan apps. If anyone harasses to pay excess interest or threatens to share morphed photos among friends and family, immediately approach police,” the SP said.
