Telangana: Kakatiya temple from 13th century yet to be restored

HYDERABAD: A 13th century Kakatiya monument, which was dismantled during the expansion of the National Highway at Inupamula village in Kethepalli Mandal Nalgonda district, is yet to be restored. The Pachala Parvatiswara Swamy temple, which used to receive regular worship for several centuries, is now in tatters.

Archaeologist Dr E Sivanagireddy, who inspected the stack of the dismembered temple stones on Friday, said, “The temple was dismantled by experienced Silpins from Jetprole village in Mahbubnagar district. The plan was to reconstruct it with the funds given as compensation by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Funds earmarked for its reconstruction are available with the endowments department of Telangana government.”

The archaeologist said that it would be difficult to identify the different stones. “As the numbering done on each stone has been lost, it would be difficult to identify them during reconstruction. Authorities should build the historical monument and preserve it,” he said.
