Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao files defamation suit against A Revanth Reddy

HYDERABAD: TRS working president and IT minister KT Rama Rao on Monday filed a defamation suit in the Hyderabad city civil court against TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, urging the court to restrain him from dragging his name in the ongoing ED probe in the drugs case.

He urged the court to direct the TPCC chief to offer him an unconditional apology for his irresponsible actions.

“Though I have got nothing to do with drugs or peddlers, the Congress leader has been making wild and baseless allegations against me. All such speeches are being uploaded onto YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms,” KTR said.

He enclosed online links of several such uploads for the perusal of the court. He sought a perpetual injunction against Revanth, his associates and servants from carrying out their malicious campaign against him.

“Stop him from making such speeches in public meetings, addressing media, etc, on these issues,” the minister urged in his plea. He valued the damage at Rs 1 crore. He also paid Rs 1.29 lakh as a court fee for this.

KTR also wanted the court to direct Revanth to forthwith take down all the libellous material posted on various media platforms. “Had Revanth been an ordinary political activist, people may ignore him. But owing to his current position as chief of the state wing of a national party, people tend to watch his speeches with some enthusiasm,” KTR pointed out.

“Such a task should bring along with it some amount of decency and responsibility on the person, but unfortunately, Revanth is behaving in a manner that is unbecoming of his post and spreading utter falsehoods,” he said.

According to advocate N Naveen Kumar who filed the petition on behalf of KTR, the city civil court may take up the plea after a scrutiny.
