HYDERABAD: Four persons, including a constable, have been arrested in the alleged gangrape of a 23-year-old woman, who ended her life by consuming pesticide, in Mahbubabad.
According to Mahbubabad superintendent of police (SP) Sharath Chandra Pawar, the four accused are from the victim’s village. Three of the accused — an auto driver, a flower merchant and a businessman, who is also the husband of an MPTC — had raped the victim on February 17 night in their village.
The fourth accused, who is a constable, was not in the village on that night and he has an alibi for it. “However, he sexually exploited her in the past and we have arrested him too,” the SP added.
After returning home du- ring the early hours of February 18, the victim consumed pesticide and, while undergoing treatment, she succumbed at a hospital on February 22 night.
Based on the victim’s brother’s complaint, police registered a case under Sections 376(D), 306,354 (D), R/W 34 of the IPC at Nellikudur police station.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
