HYDERABAD: While opposition parties have taken united stands on various issues against the NDA government over the past few weeks in Delhi, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao may have been charting his own course to enter national politics. During the launch of Dalit Bandhu in Huzurabad constituency, the chief minister had remarked that the scheme’s popularity will spread like wildfire across other states.
The chief minister himself, on several occasions, has remarked that initiatives such as the Rythu Bandhu and Mission Bhagiratha, have been the inspiration behind similar schemes launched by Centre and other states. KCR’s interest to shape the course of national politics is not new. In fact, it has been evident for the past three years.
His efforts to launch a federal front of non-Congress and non-BJP-aligned parties before 2019 Lok Sabha elections were a major step in this direction.
To this effect, he had even held talks with leaders of other parties such as TMC’s Mamata Banerjee, MK Stalin of the DMK, and BJD’s Naveen Patnaik among others.
“Though KCR has made his plans clear on entering national politics on several occasions, national parties do not believe him as he lacks ‘credibility’ and criticise him as he changes his stands frequently. They also have doubts as TRS is seen to move closely with BJP in Centre. TRS has supported many bills moved by NDA in the Parliament and did not pass a resolution against the farm laws while resolutions against CAA and NRC were passed in the same assembly,” said political analyst Professor K Nageshwar.
Another analyst, SK Zakeer said: “KCR spoke against privatisation of PSUs during GHMC and MLC polls and even said he would organise a conclave with all regional party leaders and CMs in December. Now the party is silent on the conclave.”
However, TRS itself maintains that it has highlighted issues against Centre’s policies both in and out of Parliament. “KCR is the only leader who openly criticised BJP and Centre for encroaching on powers of states. The party also raised issues and spoke against farm laws in Lok Sabha. Our support to Centre has been issue-based,” informed TRS Lok Sabha floor leader Nama Nageshwara Rao.
