Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao hunts for right name to give party national flavour

HYDERABAD: Even as names like Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Nava Bharat Party are floating around, TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is yet to zero in on a name for his proposed national party. He is reportedly consulting astrologers and pandits on a suitable name.

In order to give a national flavour to his new party, KCR is mulling multiple names, sources said. This has resulted in delay in holding the party state executive meeting and seeking a change of party’s name with the Election Commission of India (ECI), it is learnt.

Party sources said initially KCR considered BRS on the lines of Telangana Rashtra Samithi. But for giving a national outlook and also to suit to the northern parts of the country, senior leaders proposed Bharat Rajya Samithi. KCR also took opinions of party leaders on names like Jai Bharat Party, Nava Bharat Party and even Navodaya Party. But, Navodaya Party and Nava Bharat Party sound like Telugu names, some leaders felt and said the new name should be in tune with the TRS. They also felt that out-and-out new names could create confusion among Telangana voters and jeopardise the party’s chances.

The TRS chief has reportedly roped in some leaders to search for the parties’ names, which have already been registered with the ECI.

Sources said unless the new party’s name is finalised, the TRS cannot hold the state executive meeting to adopt a resolution merging the TRS with the new party and changing the party’s name. Later, the party will approach the ECI for registration. KCR wanted to hold the state executive meeting on June 19, but party sources said it will be delayed now.

“The date of the state executive meeting has not been fixed. Once the party executive gives nod, the party will be registered with the ECI, which has no geographical jurisdiction. The national party can contest the assembly elections in any state,” former MP and senior leader B Vinod Kumar, who is playing a crucial role in shaping the new party, told TOI.

The party leaders said KCR is also wary about good muhurthams and auspicious days for announcing the launch of the new party. While muhurthams for beginning any work ends on June 24, Ashadam, the Telugu calender month, which is considered inauspicious, begins on June 29.

TRS sources recalled that the ECI is also busy with presidential elections.
