HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted sharply to Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressing opposition to the proposed amendments to All India Services (Cadre) Rules, 1954. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 24, the CM had said the amendments would strain centre-state relations in the country.
“This is nothing but narrow thinking and chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao should come out of this. As a part of administrative reforms, the Narendra Modi government is bringing about reforms in the All India Services cadre and this is in the larger interest of the country,” Telangana BJP leader N V Subhash said on Tuesday.
The BJP spokesperson said the government of India needs experienced and senior bureaucrats to administer various departments and organisations. This, so that there is more efficiency and transparent governance. “The state governments should voluntarily depute their bureaucrats to the centre. In Telangana alone, while some bureaucrats are loaded with excess responsibilities, some are confined only to their routine work,” he said.
“CM KCR’s claim that the proposed amendments of the AIS cadre rules are against the constitution and would result in centre-state relations getting strained is only politically motivated,” he said.
BJP Telangana chief spokesman K Krishna Saagar Rao said state governments have no role in service rule amendments of All India Services officers. “The central government does not need parliamentary bills or discussions to make executive decisions,” he said. “There is not even a violation of law or statute, leave alone violation of the constitution. Service rules amendments are routine government decisions,” Krishna Saagar Rao said.
