Telangana: After infighting, BJP now troubled by covert netas

HYDERABAD: The BJP’s problems in Telangana, it appears, are far from over. As if infighting and groupism within the party weren’t enough, the issue of covert leaders seems to be bothering the party leadership.

At the party state core committee meeting on Monday, some senior leaders cautioned about covert leaders and how they could alter the party’s chances in the coming elections. At a time when the wind in the state is blowing in favour of the party, the leadership should be wary about covert leaders and not succumb to their guile, some seniors suggested.

Decibel levels remained high as a heated debate broke out on who was indulging in covert politics. A senior leader said leaders from other parties would be welcomed into the BJP and the process would be accelerated too. Some leaders were again warned about not disturbing the process of other party members joining the BJP.

“But, at the same time, stop infighting as it is proving to be advantageous for other parties,” a senior leader said. It was aimed at a set of leaders from the city. The party leadership said that local leaders at the booth level were preventing leaders of other parties from joining the saffron ranks. “Do not object if they are given a position in the party,” the local leaders were told.

Tarun Chugh, Telangana party affairs incharge, said the success of Narendra Modi government at the Centre in implementation of various welfare schemes should be taken to the doorsteps of the people. “When we form the government, we will build houses and provide more jobs for the youth,” he said. Union minister G Kishan Reddy, interacting with party leaders at the meeting, said the BJP will form the government at the Centre again despite the efforts of several leaders, including TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao. He said KCR is making false accusations against the Centre.
