Tekashi 6ix9ine has delayed the release of a new music video out of respect for the protests happening in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
The rapper made the announcement on Instagram, explaining the clip, which was supposed to come out on 5 June, has been pushed back to 12 June.
He said the change came “out of respect for what we are going through right now”.
“It’s not the time for a music video right now with everything going on in the world,” he added in the accompanying caption.
“It will be extremely selfish.”
Last month, Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, unveiled his first new music since being released from prison.
“Gooba” was his first release in almost two years.
Hernandez was sentenced in December 2019 to two years in prison after pleading guilty to charges accusing him of joining the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang.
The artist was granted an early release from custody in April due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Other releases have been delayed amid protests in reaction to the death of Floyd.
Sony has postponed its planned Playstation 5 event. The Obie theatre awards, too, have postponed their virtual ceremony citing the ongoing demonstrations.
Launches for new seasons of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone have also been pushed back.
