The Pentagon expanded on the airstrikes carried out on Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday morning, with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth describing ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’ as ‘bold and brilliant’.
"We devastated the Iranian nuclear program, but it's worth noting that the operation did not target Iranian troops or the Iranian people,” Hegseth said during a briefing on Sunday, during which he hailed the attack as "an incredible and overwhelming success."
"The order we received from our commander in chief was focused, it was powerful, and it was clear," Hegseth said, adding that it had shown the world that “American deterrence is back”.
“When this president speaks, the world should listen,” he said
UN Secretary General António Guterres described the US move as a “dangerous escalation”.
Donald Trump has warned Iran to “make peace” or face "far greater" attacks.
