"Two male youths, 17 years and 15 years received serious injuries when they came in contact with what was described as a firework.

"Both youths received serious injuries, one to his eye and the other to his hand and were taken to The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Dublin and Childrens University Hospital at Temple Street for treatment.

"Investigations are ongoing."

A garda spokesman previously warned people to be wary of the fireworks as each year children suffer injuries caused by them.

He went on to ask parents to confiscate them from their kids if they find out they've obtained them

He said: "Each year many children and young people suffer terrible injuries caused by fireworks, including burns, loss of limbs and serious eye injuries.

"The Gardaí will confiscate any fireworks (with the exception of fireworks in Category F1 found in the possession of persons and such persons are also liable to prosecution. In addition, there is a specific offence under law for throwing any ignited fireworks in public places.

"Apart from the risk of injury, fireworks can cause great distress and annoyance to elderly residents.

"They can set off intruder alarms, causing unnecessary extra demands on Garda resources. They can also cause great distress to family pets and animals.

"Finally, there always the possibility of outbreaks of fire in property if fireworks such as 'rockets' continue to burn after landing.

"We ask that parents be responsible in ensuring that their children do not cause injury to either themselves or others on Halloween night. If you discover that your children have possession of bangers/fireworks, please take same from them."
